Immanuel College and NEISSR celebrate the 57th National Service Scheme Foundation Day with outreach and social drives.
DIMAPUR — Immanuel College in Dimapur and the North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) in Chümoukedima observed the 57th National Service Scheme (NSS) foundation day on Thursday.
Immanuel College: The NSS unit of Immanuel College, Dimapur, observed the day at the college conference hall to commemorate the establishment of the NSS and remind students of its values and commitment towards community service.
According to an update, the NSS Programme Officer of Immanuel College Abenthung Humtsoe spoke on the significance of the NSS and the importance of active participation in its activities.
He encouraged the NSS volunteers to uphold the spirit of selfless service and dedicate themselves to the welfare of the community in accordance with the NSS motto, "Not me but you."
Principal of Immanuel College, Dr. Th. Sharatchandra Singh highlighted that participation in the NSS provides students with opportunities to develop a sense of responsibility, leadership, discipline, and social commitment.
NEISSR: Meanwhile, the NSS unit of the North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research, Peace Centre, Chümoukedima, marked the day through a series of community-orientated initiatives promoting social responsibility, volunteerism, and engagement.
As part of the observance, a cleanliness drive was conducted from 7th Mile Gate to the deputy commissioner's office, led by Assistant Professor Daisinlung Sebastian Kamsuan and Assistant Professor and NSS Programme Officer Vizosu Kikhi.
The drive witnessed the participation of NSS volunteers and students who contributed towards maintaining cleanliness and promoting civic responsibility in the locality.
In response to the recent fire incident at Kuda B Khel, Dimapur, fifth-semester Bachelor of Social Work students undertook a rapid post-fire household needs and impact assessment.
The assessment sought to document the immediate needs, losses, and challenges faced by affected households and to understand priority areas requiring support and follow-up intervention. The field exercise provided trainees with practical exposure to household-level assessment, community interaction, data collection, and needs identification.
Members of the Green Club, Red Ribbon Club, National Cadet Corps cadets, and general students of NEISSR also participated in the activities.
Additionally, a series of community outreach activities were conducted across various schools, non-governmental organisations, and villages, focusing on awareness, interaction with community members, and identifying opportunities for sustained institutional outreach.
