The beauty queen spoke to Eastern Mirror Correspondent Imrongkumba Aier
Her impression about the event: During my whole stay in Delhi as a contestant, I was treated with respect and kindness. The organisers as well as other contestants were friendly and embraced me as one of their own even though I looked different. I believe it depends on us how other people view us and treat us. Having been voted as Miss Congeniality by all the remaining contestants went on to prove that I was accepted and not discriminated. I think people view us differently because we look different, eat different and dress different. Racially,we’re completely different from mainland Indians but I do believe, at the end of the day, we’re all human beings and it depends on us how we adapt to people and places.
Inspired by: Besides my mom, I am really inspired by Angelina Jolie. I believe that beauty is achieved only when one is beautiful inside out and that is who she is. Angelina Jolie exemplifies that she is not just a beautiful face but she is a beautiful human being too. She inspires me in so many ways.
On Homecoming: I received such a warm welcome from all quarters. Well wishers orchestrated the whole thing. They arranged to receive me halfway and I was paraded around the town. They took me to the ongoing MDFA League match where I was given a warm welcome by the organisers and committee members. I was then taken home where my family members, relatives and well wishers gathered to congratulate me on my success. It was an overwhelming experience and I am so grateful for all the love and support I received. I never even dreamt that I would one day be a representative from India to the Miss World Beauty Queen. Coming from Nagaland, a tiny state in the North East of India, it’s difficult to compete at national levels. But we have the talent and the passion to excel in different fields. There is no dearth of talents in the North East.
We have to take chances and work extra hard to achieve our dreams. Through my experience, I want to highlight to others that our people are hard working, determined and talented and that if given the opportunity, we are ready to prove our mettle.
Her message: It was a sweet moment for me when the organizers of the competition congratulated me saying that I made a record by being the first person from the North East to have won a title so far. Even though I am the first from the region, I believe there’ll be more to follow. It is our time to show to the world that we have it in us and that we can succeed in anything we put our minds to. With God on our side, we have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
