MOKOKCHUNG — Imkong L Imchen, Advisor for Information and Public Relations and Soil and Water Conservation, said at the inauguration of the Mangmetong Village Women Union’s golden jubilee memorial building at Sangtemla Ward, Mokokchung, on Monday that Kohima is built by the government, Dimapur by individuals, and Mokokchung by its people.

Imchen lauded the women’s union for completing the building with INR 1,52,57,000, a modest sum compared to INR 19 crore for Dimapur’s Town Hall renovation or INR 161 crore for a 16-km road upgrade in the business hub of Nagaland.

He said the expenses in other areas were disproportionate. Referring to Kohima’s INR 200–300 crore annual budget, he praised the Ao community’s self-help spirit, adding that their civic sense and dedication had brought them this far.

He credited Mangmetong’s unity as a mighty effort and urged that the building be used as a decisive decision-making centre to benefit society, with unity to clear the INR 82,57,000 debt.

Rongsenlemla, convenor of the construction-cum-fundraising committee, said the building, started in May 2022, has INR 70 lakh cleared. She said the conference hall can be hired for INR 2,000 per day, along with four apartments and parking, expecting a monthly income of INR 43,500.

She thanked contributors and the contractor for quality work completed without an architect.
