DIMAPUR — Commemorating
150th foundation day celebration of India Meteorological Department, the
Meteorological Centre in Kohima organised various events on January 14 and 15.
The centre has screened live telecast of the inaugural
ceremony by the prime minister of India, Narendra Modi, who also addressed the
public at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi in the presence of Dr. Jitendra Singh,
Union minister of state in-charge of Ministry of Earth Sciences at Shemrock and
Shemford School in Chümoukedima.
A lecture programme was also organised for the students and
teachers, which highlighted the importance of weather information in improving
disaster preparedness and mitigating climate risk through presentation.
It stated that IMD officials showcased the various
meteorological instruments and various sensors of automatic weather station
(AWS) and a question and answers session was held with students and teachers of
Shemrock School.
Besides, events like run for weather, plantation drive, yoga
session and sports event were organised to commemorate the day.
