Mangmetong, April 28 (EMN): The Imchen Mungdang, a Mongsen clan of the Ao Nagas, on Friday culminated its 50th anniversary celebrations at Mangmetong village in Mokokchung district.
The two-day golden jubilee celebrations, April 27 to April 28, was held with the theme, “Penliro’” and saw the attendance of around 300 Imchen clansmen from various villages across Mokokchung.
Speaking on the last day of the conference, Imkong L Imchen, minister for Environment & Forest and Climate Change said ‘we should not interfere in other clans chronicles, origins and linkages nor others should interfere in our chronicles because they have their own justifications.’
Saying that migration are traced back and proven through cultural artefacts, the minster urged clansmen to trace their links and migration routes ‘through deep research without hurting or opposing other parties.’
Appreciating the clansmen for using their title (surname) along with their name these days, the minister asserted that the use of clan title indicates the people’s acceptance and recognition of clan identity.
He has cautioned the clansmen not bring up ‘clan chronicles into the public domain but to rectify and settle matters in their own households.’
Former MLA Nungsangyapang Aier also spoke during the event.
The Imchen Mungdang has adopted a number of resolutions: Endorsing the last Imchen Kidong (clan) executive meeting to compile the chronicles of the history, origin and ‘linkages’ of the Imchan Kidong by a research committee; house resolved to expedite the work to be published in a book at the earliest.
The Imchen Kidong will facilitate the Mongsen research work to trace the history, origin and migration beyond Chungliyimti, another resolution said. The Imchen clan resolved to also preserve biodiversity to ‘tackle global warming and other related environment issues.’
In commemoration of the golden jubilee, a ‘Imchen Reju’ (Imchen’s hall) will be constructed in Mokokchung town, another resolution stated.
