Imphal, Dec. 11 (EMN): Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday appreciated the central government leaders for the extension of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system to Manipur state.
“I appreciated the central leaders for acting so quickly and so positively in the larger interest of the people in the state,” Singh said while announcing the report for formal publication of the ILP extension in the Gazette of India, during a press conference at the secretariat in Imphal.
Singh said that the extension of the ILP system to the state is being published in the Gazette of India on Wednesday after verbal assurance from the Union Home minister in the Parliament.
Remembering the tireless efforts made by the people, civil society organisations, Meira Paibis, political parties etc for the implementation of ILP system in the state, the chief minister said the implementation of such a system will protect the indigenous people of the state.
He informed the media persons that necessary steps would be taken immediately to check the influx of illegal immigrants at the border areas of the state.
A copy of the publication in the Gazette of India was distributed during the press conference, which was attended by the minister for Law and Legislative Affairs L Jayantakumar, minister for Education Th Radheshyam, deputy chairman of the State Planning Board S Rajen, and MLAs H Dingo, Th Satyabrata, L Rameshwor Meetei and others.
Meanwhile, the president of the Yuimi Horam of Information Centre for Hill Areas, Manipur (ICHAM) welcomed the centre’s move. Advisor Paokam Haokip and Vice President D S Panmei of the ICHAM also shared a similar sentiment during a press conference at their office in Imphal.
The Chief Minister Biren Singh-led council of ministers, MLAs and a large number of party workers during a thanks giving gathering in Imphal raised slogans hailing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah besides declaring a public holiday on December 10 to celebrate Manipur’s inclusion in the ILP system.
The ILP system is currently in force in Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, and Nagaland.
