DIMAPUR — The Dimapur district administration, accompanied by Dobashis and police personnel, carried out an eviction drive on Thursday morning to reclaim illegally occupied land within the Dimapur District Hospital compound.

Two illegally constructed structures operating as shops in front of the hospital staff quarters were dismantled during the drive.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Tinojongshi Chang informed this newspaper that the demolition was carried out following a complaint lodged by the District Hospital Dimapur in 2024 regarding illegal encroachment on hospital land.

The eviction drive was conducted on Thursday after verification of the complaint, he said.

When asked whether further demolition drives would follow, the deputy commissioner stated that the district administration would act accordingly if the Health department identifies additional cases of encroachment and notifies the administration for necessary action.

It may be mentioned that during a state-wide assessment of health infrastructure mandated by the central ministry, the state’s Health and Family Welfare Minister, P Paiwang Konyak, had visited the District Hospital Dimapur on November 19, 2024.

During the visit, Konyak announced plans to construct a patient lounge, canteen, and staff quarters for fourth-grade employees. He had noted that there was no shortage of space within the hospital premises for these developments and had urged district health and administrative authorities to hold regular meetings to ensure proper infrastructure and equipment and address land encroachment issues.
