Dimapur, Sep. 11 (EMN): The local administration and civil society organisations of Bhandari town in Wokha district met in the official chamber of the additional deputy commissioner of Bhandari on September 11 to discuss matter related to illegal immigrants.
The government publicity agency the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR), gave details on Wednesday informing about the meeting.
Members of the civil administration, the police, and community groups such as the Lotha Students’ Union, Eloe Hoho and the Lotha Hoho of Bhandari are said to have discussed the ‘possible’ influx of illegal immigrants into the state following the release of National Register of Citizens (NRC) list by the government of Assam.
They discussed the measures the area should take to check and prevent illegal immigrants entering the state through the border areas, the updates stated.
Student leaders highlighted issues concerning the NRC and the activities taken up by the student organisation to prevent illegal immigrants, the IPR stated.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Tiameren Chang was stated to have asked the police to ‘strengthen the police check gate’ and strictly monitor the situation that no non-locals are allowed to enter the state without the required valid pass, the IPR stated.
“He also sought cooperation from all the NGOs and civil societies while checking ILP. All the members present assured that they would extend all possible cooperation and assistance to the administration and police to prevent entry of any doubtful and non-local people,” the IPR added.
