IMPHAL, April 17 (EMN): India’s premier media training institute- Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC)’s Aizawl Regional Centre would be the media training hub for the entire NE region once the ongoing construction across 8 acres of land near Mizoram University is expected to complete by 2018.
IIMC’s Director General K G Suresh said this during an interaction with media persons on the sideline of monitoring an attachment programme of the institution for the Indian Information Service(IIS) officer trainees conducted through Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) premises at Mantripukhuri here on Monday.
The attachment programme was organized to equip 15 IIS officer trainees with in depth knowledge of the practical usage of communication techniques in a challenging environment of the NE state.
“We’re also thinking of introducing a special course on Community Radio (CR) for the benefits of aspiring personnel for setting up CR stations including Aizawl centre,” says Director General Suresh. “The step has been taken up considering the importance and scope of CR in the country which has as many as 206 CR stations.”
The IIMC’s Regional Centre at Aizawl which was inaugurated six years ago considering the lack of media training facilities in the region, aims to bridge this gap by training media professionals who could contribute to this ever burgeoning sector and currently it’s intact capacity is 15 students for the Post Graduate diploma in journalism(English).
“We will encourage more persons from the region to undergo training in the Aizawl centre,” said DG who was once served as Senior Consulting Editor with Doordarshan News, India’s public news broadcaster and Chief Political Correspondent with Press Trust of India. “Besides we also like to hold an orientation programme for the journalists in Manipur on content generation and journalism with technology in association with a local partner.”
IIMC DG who was accompanied by Additional DG Mayank Agarwal is expected to give a briefing on the institutions activity in the country and NE in particular during Union Minister of Information and Bradcasting Venkaiah Naidu’s visit to Guwahati on April 18.
