Dimapur, Dec. 3 (EMN): The 3rd day of the Hornbill Festival began with various cultural performances on Dec. 3 at Kisama. The occasion saw the attendance of Lieutenant General Shokin Chauhan, the director general of the Assam Rifles as the chief guest of the event.
Addressing the gathering at the programme, the chief guest encouraged the people of the state to promote and preserve the unique cultural traditions of the Naga people ‘for the future generation.’
Various cultural performances were given by tribal community members: Angami folk song (Tsiadou PHFE), Konyak folk Dance (Shuleipe), Ao Tenem Sungjok (‘steps of the Hornbill’), Rengma Rhacho (Indigenous game), Pochury (Shakvudow), Chakhesang traditional wrestling, Chang Lo-Chia (gentlemen song), Sumi Aphilo kuwo (war dance) and Kuki, Khulkon Lam.
In the evening session, various cultural performances were: Lotha—Woro Juhre Ojurhe (dance); Kachari—Bal Maijai (folk dance); Yimchunger—Reku Lukhun (fighting the enemy); Zeliang—Herie Lim (hornbill dance); Phom—Kahsho Asho (folk song); Garo—Jaktong Sika (traditional game); Khiamniungan—Noklie; and Sangtam, a folk dance. The event was organized by the department of Art and Culture. The chief host of the programme was parliamentary secretary for Tourism C Apok Jamir.
Cyclists do their bit to deliver green message

As part of the 18th edition of the Hornbill Festival, a local business resource group, the Alaphra Group, organised a cycling rally on Dec. 3. The event had about 22 young enthusiastic athletes taking part in the rally.
The secretary of the Nagaland Cycling Association Rickey Ozukum flagged off the rally. Due to ongoing examinations in schools and colleges, he said, many people could not participate in the event. He hoped that in the near future, tourists from other parts of the country would also take part in the rally. This event was initiated to ‘encourage the younger generation to pursue healthier lifestyles and take steps toward conservation of environment.’
