Dimapur, Feb. 3: A youth organization has lamented that had the government of Nagaland paid attention to the voice of the people, the situation in the state arising out of protests against the municipal and town council elections would not have turned ugly. The Chakhromna Youth Organisation (CYO) issued a press release to the media on Friday stating that the entire issue was “precipitated by the arrogant and irresponsible decision / action of the state government.”
“The CYO (Chakhromna Youth Organisation) hereby state that had the govt. been sensitive enough and heed to the voice of the people, the situation would not have taken such an ugly turn,” the press release stated.
“The whole issue was precipitated by the arrogant and irresponsible decision/action of the state government where it took a cowardly U-turn against the agreement signed with the NBCC (Nagaland Baptist Church Council) and JCC (Joint Action Committee) which is total betrayal of the trust of the people.” At this juncture, the organization stated, the “seemingly deep concern and appeal” of the chief minister and “some individuals” regarding the damage to properties “is utterly inhuman and senseless because human life is most precious and such materialistic concern and irrational Act.”
The Municipal Act can never be considered “above our Naga identity and culture,” the CYO stated.
“The state govt. should take full responsibility for playing with human lives for some cheap and dirty political ambition. The present situation should never be politicized by any political party for any cheap / petty political gains, because it is an issue which concerns the Nagas as a whole and above party politics.”
The CYO has iterated full support to the Chakhroma Public Organization and other tribal Hohos ‘in their charter of demands’ and affirmed to ‘firmly stand by it.’
The CYO has conveyed sincere condolences to the bereaved family of the two deceased
youths and prayed that the Almighty God grant solace and peace to their family members.
“We also wish speedy recovery to all the injured youths who are under medical treatment,” the press release added.
