Dimapur, February 5
Gender politics refers to a society’s position about gender roles. The department of Political Science of the ICFAI University of Nagaland is organizing a two-day national seminar sponsored by the Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR) on the topic “ Gender and Politics: Rhetoric and Applicability.” The event is scheduled to be conducted from February 11 and till the 12th.
The event will be conducted from 10 am in the university’s auditorium, at 6th Mile in Sovima of Dimapur.
The university has invited experts, scholars and ‘well meaning individuals’ to be part of the academic exercise. The sub-themes on which the seminar will take its course of academic debate and discourse are gender and the state, participation and representation, civil society and gender discourse, masculinity and queer scholarship, and gender and economy, a press release from the university informed on Friday, February 5.
“The gender debate in the era of globalization has also taken a new meaning where new gendered categories have to be accommodated and engaged in an institutional set-up, especially in a democratic set-up if notions of equality, citizenship and freedom are to be realized,” the press release said.
“In this context, there is an urgent need for engaging Gender beyond one particular category in view of the changing realities in the society and North Eastern communities in particular,” it added.
