Dimapur, June 12 (EMN): ICAR –NRC on Mithun, Nagaland conducted awareness programme for scientific rearing of mithun at Yangkhullen village, one of the remotest villages in Manipur state, on June 8.
It has informed that the village has more than 300 mithuns reared under free range forest ecosystem. Apart from paddy cultivation, mithun husbandry is one of the major sources of livelihood.
In order to address the ownership disputes among the mithun farmers, the farmers were demonstrated with the technology of animal identification and the animals were vaccinated against FMD, BQ and HS.Director, ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Dr. Abhijit Mitra while addressing a gathering of more than 200 mithun farmers in the Village Community Hall, shared the importance of adopting scientific mithun rearing and appraised the diversified used of mithun as source of milk, draught and leather products besides meat.
Under Tribal Sub Plan inputs including barbed wire, CGI sheet, gum boot, rain coats and veterinary medicines were distributed to the farmers.
Dr. Sapunii Stephen Hanah, Scientist (LPM), Dr. Kezhavituo Vupru, ACTO, Dr. Kobu Khate, ACTO and Dr. Lozhohol Rhetso young professional participated in the programme.
