ICAR-KVK Phek holds training on integrated farming system
The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Phek (ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun (NRCM), Medziphema), under ICAR-ATARI Zone VII, Umiam, organised a training programme on Integrated Farming System under the NICRA project
Participants and experts at the ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra,
Phek, following the training programme on Monday.
- DIMAPUR — The Indian Council of Agricultural
Research (ICAR)-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Phek (ICAR-National Research Centre
on Mithun (NRCM), Medziphema), under ICAR-ATARI Zone VII, Umiam, organised a
training programme on Integrated Farming System under the NICRA project on
Monday.
- According to an update, the programme, attended by nearly
100 farmers from K Basa, Thipuzu, Phusachodu, Kikruma, and Pfutseromi villages,
aimed to enhance their knowledge and skills in adopting integrated and
sustainable farming practices.
- Dr. T Esther Longkumer (CTO Soil Science), speaking on the
occasion, emphasised soil health management, stressing the importance of soil
fertility for sustainable farming. Dr. Hannah K Asangla (CTO Agronomy)
introduced farmers to climate-resilient field crops, guiding them on adaptive
agricultural practices.
- The session on irrigation management and drone technology
was led by Dr. Venkatesh (SMS Agricultural Engineering), who demonstrated
efficient water-use techniques and the role of drones in precision farming.
Integrated pest management strategies for chilli and king chilli were shared by
Dr. Sharanappa CH (SMS Plant Protection), offering practical solutions to
pest-related challenges.
- Dr. Harini KR (SMS Animal Science) presented on the
integrated farming system, highlighting how farmers can diversify their
agricultural practices for increased productivity and sustainability. Manjunath
KS (SMS Horticulture) delivered a session on the cultivation practices of
coriander, providing insights into improving yield and quality.
- The programme concluded with a farmers-scientist interaction
session, where participants engaged in discussions, sharing their experiences
and concerns with the experts.
