DIMAPUR — The 13th foundation day and Krishi
Mela of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Krishi Vigyan Kendra
(ICAR-KVK), Longleng, were held on December 10 and 11 at the KVK office campus.
Dr. Girish Patil, director of NRC Mithun, Medziphema, officially
inaugurated the Krishi Mela during the inaugural ceremony on December 10, as
stated in a press release.
The exhibition, featuring advanced agricultural practices
and technologies, was inaugurated by Dr. H Kalita, head of ICAR (RC) NEH
Nagaland Centre.
A farmer-scientist interaction programme on “scientific
mithun farming” brought together farmers and experts. Chaired by Dr. Patil, the
programme offered insights into the economic and ecological potential of Mithun
farming, with participation from scientists of ICAR and allied institutions.
On December 11, a farmer-scientist interaction programme was
held on the theme “Sustainable agriculture production”. The programme was
attended by YB Angam, PPC president, Longleng, as the chief guest, and Yanger Jamir,
SP Longleng, as the guest of honour.
In their speeches, the chief guest and guest of honour urged
the farming community to adopt eco-friendly practices for a resilient
agricultural future.
Speeches were also delivered by experts, including Dr. Patu
Khate (KVK Peren), Dr. Pallabi Phukan, Dr. Kalu Ram, Shubhendu, Kumari Pallavi
(KVK Longleng), and Dr. HC Kalita (senior scientist and head, KVK Longleng).
Dr. KL Meena, principal scientist and head of KVK Peren,
emphasised sustainable farming practices tailored to Northeast India.
