To educate a group of rural youth about the advanced scientific technique on pig husbandry, a residential training programme was organized during June 10-20 at ICAR RC for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Jharnapani with financial support by NEDFi, Dimapur.
Seven participants from Toulazouma village attended the training programme coordinated by Dr. M.K. Patra, Scientist (A.R.) & I/C Mega Seed Project on Pig. During the 10 days long training programme, 12 theory lectures and 14 practical sessions were arranged to expose the participants on modern scientific practices in housing, feeding management, health care and breeding of pig by a group of experts comprised of Dr. M. K. Patra, Ebibeni Ngullie, R.K.Das, Y.Kent, Soya Rungsung and L. Sunitibala Devi.
The farmers were made aware about housing requirement, feed ingredients, medicines and vaccines against common diseases, minor surgical techniques and breeding strategies for profitable pig production at village level. They were also encouraged to adopt artificial insemination technique for breeding of pig at their respective locality. Joint Director, ICAR Nagaland Centre, Dr. Bidyut C.Deka distributed the certificates at the valedictory programme and urged upon the farmers to use the knowledge gained during the 10 days long training for betterment of the fellow villagers and to initiate pig breeding unit to meet the demand of piglets.. The Branch Manager, Nedfi, Richa mentioned that the initiative has been taken under CSR programme to improve the skills of rural youth who could give service for healthcare and management of pig farms located in Toulazouma village. He also assured that the financial support will be made available to the interested participants for medium to large scale pig based entrepreneurship development in near future.
