Imphal, Feb 18: To promote the uniqueness of the North-East Region, which is among the top ten biodiversity hotspots in the world, Institute of Bio-resources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), a national institute under Department of Bio-Technology, Government of India, and Kalindi College, a prominent women’s college of University of Delhi, have joined hands to setup IBSD Kalindi Centre for entrepreneurship in New Delhi.
The Centre, one of its kind and opened first time outside North-East, was launched by Manipur Governor Dr. Najma Heptulla in the presence of large number of students and teachers from various colleges of the University of Delhi. A large number of students from the North-East also participated in the programme.In her inaugural speech, Dr. Heptulla stressed that the centre will focus towards entrepreneurship for the women of the North-East and to secure their economic development in a sustainable way. The centre will also help in overcoming the perceived negligence of the women from the North-East and to enable them to join the national mainstream.
The core mission of this centre is to provide opportunities to students of all regions to explore and appreciate the diversity and immense potential of the North-eastern states; to create a better research-based understanding of the ethos; challenges and opportunities in the North-Eastern states in a culturally sensitive manner; and to nurture, strengthen; celebrate and leverage the immense talent of the students of the region by providing them a forum for expression and arrogation so that they may proactively contribute towards sustainable development and integration of the region, according to Director Prof Dinabandhu Sahoo of Institute of Bio-resources and Sustainable Development (IBSD).
He also invited the students and teachers from University of Delhi to visit North-East and explore the possibilities for research collaborations and innovations.
