Dimapur, May 26 (EMN): Chairperson of Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW), Dr. Temsula Ao stated that human trafficking affects 4.5 million worldwide. In Nagaland, she informed that a person goes missing every 4th day, where 83% are below the age of 18, 13% have been reported trafficking and 35% are untraced.
“Such criminal activities cannot be handed by our traditional customary laws” she said.
She also emphasized on setting up village level child protection committee (VLCPC).Dr. Temsula also informed the citizens of Pungro that the commission has been organising awareness programmes on human trafficking in all the districts to make aware the issues of human trafficking and to inform the people in remote areas with the full promise to have a better life outside the village and town.
ADC Pungro, Kumla Longchar; member NSCW, Asungla Cholong; president YBA and president of PPF Pungro also spoke at the function.
The programme was held on May 25 at Youth Hall, Pungro.
