Imphal, July 14 (EMN): A student who secured the 4th position in High School Leaving Certificate or class X board examination conducted by Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) this year was allegedly found scoring more marks than the 1st position holder.
This came to light when an RTI application was filed due to doubt about the marks the student secured, secretary general Shital Oinam of Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (Desam) claimed.
The 4th position holder student was Archana Hijam of Catholic School, Canchipur.
Subsequently it was found that 4 marks each were left to be given for Science and English subjects after analysing the answer script provide with the RTI along with experts and teachers following a complaint, Shital told reporters here on Thursday.
If the additional marks were to be added, Archana would have scored 4 marks higher than that of the 1st position holder.
It may be recalled that the 1st position holder of the Class X board examinations secured a total mark of 573 while Archana secured a total marks of 569 in all subjects when the result was declared on May 25.
Nearly 27,126 out of 37,351 students who wrote the exams were declared successful. Girls secured the top positions.
Demanding to award the pending marks to Archana, the student leader stated that the concerned officials in the examination section should all bear the responsibilities for this grave mistake.
Claiming that there have been many instances of error during the recent examination, Shital demanded re-evaluation of the marks of first 25 position holders of matriculation examination 2018.
Responding to the charges, BOSEM secretary Akham Joykumar in a press conference on Friday said the re-evaluation or re-examination was never conducted in the history of BOSEM even though re-scrutiny and photocopy of the answer script was provided under RTI.
Stating that the mark tabulation process was done as per rules, Joykumar also admitted that Head Examiner and the other examiners and experts gives the marks even though BOSEM conducts the examination.
He also announced to constitute an enquiry committee to find out the details of the case for necessary steps.
