Students will have ample free time this
season as educational institutions affiliated with the Nagaland Board of School
Education are on a long winter break, which will continue until the new
academic year begins sometime in January or February next year. If you are
looking for ways to spend the holidays resourcefully, here are some ideas you
may find interesting (or for your children):
1)Quality
time with dear ones: There is no better time for bonding than during the
festive season. With Christmas and New Year around the corner, you can spend
quality time with your family, relatives and friends. If your near and dear
ones like grandparents and cousins are in the village, paying a visit to them
may give you immense joy besides connecting with your roots.
2)Spend
time with elders: Elderly people are often considered as repositories of
knowledge and wisdom. You can spend time with them and engage in discussions
about your roots, cultural heritage and traditions. Just listening to their
life experiences can enrich you.
3)Reading:
If you didn’t find time to read books beyond the academic ones in the past
months, this is a good time to catch up. Reading has several benefits, like
mental stimulation, stress reduction, improving analytical skills, etc.,
besides enhancing one’s knowledge. You can also review course materials from
the past academic year to improve your understanding of the subject matter.
4)Enhance
your skills: You can make use of the holidays productively by actively working
on improving your skills and talent. Developing your knowledge and proficiency
in the field of your interest can make a big difference as a professional in
this dog-eat-dog world. They say practice makes a person perfect.
5)Learn
new skills: There could be many things that you wanted to pursue but were
unable to do so due to hectic academic activities and other reasons. This
winter vacation is an opportunity to learn new skills you have been yearning to
acquire, be it gardening, cooking, music, photography, writing or learning new
languages.
