- MOKOKCHUNG — A
devastating fire broke out late on March 27 in Ungma village, reducing a house
to ashes. The blaze reportedly erupted at around 11:00 pm.
- Firefighters from both Fire Station South and Fire Station
North in Mokokchung rushed to the scene and battled the flames with local
residents to prevent it from spreading to neighbouring structures. Despite
their efforts, the fire had already consumed the entire house before it could
be brought under control.
- According to fire officials, the structure, owned by Chuba
Pongen of Yimsen Mepu in Ungma village, was constructed with “half-wall and
wooden materials”, which contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.
- Officials said that the firefighting operation lasted for
approximately one hour and forty-two minutes, with three fire engines deployed
to extinguish the flames. Favourable wind conditions and accessible roads
allowed the teams to efficiently neutralise the situation.
- Although no casualties were reported, property estimated to
be worth around INR 4 lakhs was lost in the blaze. Authorities are still
investigating the cause of the fire, which remains undetermined at this time.
