Dimapur, May 11 (EMN): A house belonging to one Lipok Jamir was reduced to cinder at Mangko Ward in Mangkolemba on May 9, a delayed report reaching here said.
While properties worth Rs 25 lakhs was damaged in the incident, however, there was not report of any casualty as the residents were not present at the time of the incident. Cause of the fire was pointed towards electric short circuit.
Surprising, there is no Fire Services at Mangkolemba sub division. In the absence of Fire Services in the sub-division, numerous houses were destroyed in the fire related accidents at Mangkolemba.
A joint press release issued by Mangkolemba Ao Lanur Telongjem (MALT) president Imjong Longkumer and the general secretary Tinu Langu viewed that May 9 accident could have been averted had there been Fire Services department at Mangkolemba.
It said that police department at Mangkolemba faces utmost hardship in mobility as there was no vehicle in the department. The police officers and the personnel had to hire private vehicles for official duties. This had largely crippled the versatility and swiftness in delivering security services by the police department at Mangkolemba, it added.
In the light of the above mentioned circumstances, MALT appealed the concerned departments to initiate necessary facilities at Mangkolemba town at the earliest to provide adequate services to the public in times of accidents and danger.
