WOKHA — A devastating fire, allegedly sparked by a short circuit, gutted a house in Khumchoyan village, Wokha district, on Friday morning. The home of Myingthunglo Patton, widow of the late Tongtongo Patton, was completely destroyed between 8:30 - 9:00 am.

Zubemo Humtsoe, a Khumchoyan villager, stated that the fire occurred when most villagers were out working in their fields. The house owners were busy with rubber tapping and areca nut farm maintenance, leaving their home unattended when the blaze broke out.

Humtsoe expressed concern about the absence of emergency services in Bhandari subdivision, highlighting that the village's 67 km distance from Wokha town’s lone fire station meant they couldn’t get timely help to control the fire.

The fire is estimated to have caused damages over INR 10 lakh, with the fully furnished house being completely destroyed and no belongings salvaged.
