Mokokchung, February 25
A residence at Salangtem ward in Mokokchung town was gutted by fire on Thursday at around 10:00 am.
Two fire tenders were pressed into service, and were assisted by Mokokchung police and volunteers. They successfully doused the fire after 15 minutes. Possible escalation of fire to adjoining houses was prevented because of walls around the house and easy availability and access to water from Car Wash stations opposite the house.
Officials of the Fire department of the town reported that the house was occupied by two families. No casualty or injury was reported.
Property approximately worth Rs 80 Lakh was destroyed in the fire. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained but officials suspect that ‘short circuit’ might have triggered the fire. One of the occupant of the house said that the fire started from an empty room, one among 13 rooms.
