Kohima, Nov. 14 (EMN): The annual Hornbill night carnival under Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), which will be held from Dec. 1 to the 10th as part of the Hornbill Festival of Nagaland, will be plastic-free zone.
Briefing media persons on Wednesday evening at its office, KCCI president Medozhatuo Rutsa said the association will strictly impose the ban on use of plastics during the night Carnival. He also said that KCCI will strictly monitor on exorbitant rate of food products and other materials during the 10-day long carnival.
The move came after Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said during the world environment day this year to make Nagaland a plastic-free state, setting December as the deadline to achieve the goal.
Rutsa said that the KCCI in collaboration with Kohima Municipal Council would make paper bags available for those in need during the season. He added that the carnival would begin at 6pm and end at 9pm every evening and that vehicular movement would be restricted from 5pm to 9pm.
“As per the guideline of the government, the whole stretch of the carnival will be plastic-free zone, and a penalty of INR 3000 will be imposed on defaulters under non-compliance of the management,” stated a handout from the association.
The KCCI informed that forms for opening stall will be issued on Nov. 15 at KCCI office and submission of forms will close at 3pm on Nov. 22. The selected vendors will be announced on Nov. 24.
Rutsa said that priority for opening the stalls will be given to those with experience and also give preference to local entrepreneurs.
The president also informed that the KCCI will have a mass social work on Nov. 24 from 6am to 12pm and has requested the business establishment adjacent to highway area to take part in it.
