State audition on October 17 at RCEMPA
The Hornbill Rock Contest, organized by the Music Task Force (MTF), has always been an important event of the Hornbill Festival, held annually in the month of December. The Rock Contest attracts bands from all parts of the country every year, and as such the event has seen acts of varied genres from all over the country competing for the top prizes during the past events.
Even this year, the MTF in collaboration with Sky Entertainment and Nagaland Outdoors’ Club (NOC), is all set to organize the Hornbill International Rock Contest (HIRC) 2015.
For this, interested bands from Nagaland will undergo live audition on October 17 at Regional Centre of Excellence for Music and Performing Arts (RCEMPA), Jotsoma at 10 am. Though the last date of form submission is tentatively fixed on October 15, the organizers at the press conference has informed that registration would be even extended for participating bands to make their entry at the venue before the live audition begins.
Each participating band will be given 20 minutes to present their songs, including set up time. The judges for the audition are Thejove, Andrew and Abem.
For bands coming from outside Nagaland, the last date of form submission has been fixed on October 24. Interested bands are informed to submit/mail all applications and demos at hircnagaland@gmail.com. All demos will have to be sent as WAV or mp3 format and one Youtube link of band live performance (Two songs).
The top winner of this year’s HIRC will win cash award of Rs. 10 lakh, while the 1st runners-up and 2nd runners-up will receive a cash award of Rs 5 lakh and Rs 2.5 lakh respectively. Attractive prizes (Not cash) have also been arranged for winners of individual categories, including Best vocalist, best guitarist, best keyboardist, best drummer and best bassist, the organizers informed.

At the press conference, it was announced that the managing event partners will work in collaboration with MTV Indies for live telecast.
According to the organizers, there will be four judges for the Hornbill International Rock Contest. One among the four judges will be from Nagaland and three will be from outside the State. Likely, there will be one judge from Rolling Stones magazine, the official magazine partner of HIRC 2015, another from Trinity College of Music, London and one from MTV Indies. It has been confirmed that Randolph from the band - Pentagram will be the judge representing MTV, while the local judge is yet to be finalized.
