KOHIMA — As part of the ongoing Hornbill Festival, the Department of Tribal Affairs on Tuesday organised various indigenous games competitions at Naga Solidarity Park, Kohima.


The event is being held to commemorate the Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh Pakhwada.


In the tribal log cutting competition, Gwashenlo Keppen from the Rengma tribe won the first position, followed by Rhavi Rume from Chakhesang tribe in second position and Zulutoshi from Ao tribe in third.


In the tribal cock fight competition, Kevizhakho Suokhrie from the Angami tribe won the first position; Peuhaulungsing from Zeliang tribe won the second position; and Nukuto A Sumi from Sumi tribe won the third position.


In the arm wrestling competition (right-handed), Avilie Zuyie from the Angami tribe won the first position, while Thejaketuo Talie from Angami tribe and Lunrito from Yimkhiung tribe won the second and third positions, respectively.

Toyota Hornbill Music Festival 2025 begins at Kisama


Namyitiuleng from the Zeliang tribe won the first position in the bamboo cutting competition, while R Tsanthungo Shitri from Lotha tribe and Zhüsutu from Pochury tribe, won the second and third positions, respectively.


Meanwhile, in the banana stem cutting competition, Limba from the Chang tribe emerged as the winner, while Joseph from Kuki tribe and Letuozo Kiewhuo from Angami tribe, secured second and third positions, respectively.


TL Kiusumong Tikhir, Joint Secretary, Department of Tribal Affairs, distributed the prizes to the winners of the various competitions.


A team from the Tribal Research Institute (TRI), Kerala, made a special presentation with their songs and musical instruments, besides exhibiting their ethnic cuisines.
