KOHIMA — The Hornbill Esports Championship Season 2 culminated at Indira Gandhi Stadium (IGS), Kohima, on Tuesday, with Sherry Lalthangzo, economic advisor for the North Eastern Region, attending the closing ceremony as the special guest.
The event was organised by the Department of Youth Resources and Sports (DYRS), Government of Nagaland, in association with the Esports Association of Nagaland (ESAN).
Addressing the event, she encouraged the athletes, stating that there will be winners and losers in every game and that games are always a building block of life.
Highlighting the change in the narrative of sports from the olden days, she said many parents now encourage their children to take up sports not only for health and wellness but also as income-generating activities.

She stated that attending the Hornbill Esports Championship was an eye-opener for everyone, as the sport that parents often argue and fight with their children over is now considered a sport, even though parents still have apprehensions due to fears of addiction, distraction from studies, and the perception that it is not result-orientated.
Lalthangzo, however, advised the athletes not to overdo it in ways that could be harmful but to examine the pros and cons so that it does not cause health issues and to make the best use of God’s given ability to think, decide, and learn.
She also exhorted the athletes to have self-confidence to pursue their dreams, irrespective of the profession, and to choose paths that are good for themselves, their health, their families, and humanity.
Furthermore, she stressed the importance of creating a positive impact, advising youngsters to focus on things that could create positive ripple effects while realising their potential across the world.
