Kohima, Nov. 29 (EMN): The main event of the 20th edition of Hornbill Festival will take place at Naga Heritage Village in Kisama, 11 km away from the state capital. A series of events in parts of Dimapur, Kohima, Mokokchung, Phek and Wokha will also take place as part of the festival. Depending on light or heavy traffic, visitors can expect approximately 25-45 minutes to reach the site of the festival from Kohima town.
Transportation: To reach the venue, visitors can avail the tourist bus service (Pink bus) being provided by Nagaland State Transport from the Directorate of Tourism office campus, PR Hill; use regional taxis available from Sayo taxi parking or Anta local taxis from PR Hill/ PHQ Junction in Kohima.
Naga morungs: Traditional morungs exhibiting the culture, delicacies and folk music of the Nagas will be the highlight for tourists visiting Nagaland.
Main arena: Cultural troupes from each tribe will perform a series of dances, games, folk songs, rituals and other activities all through the day. In the evening, various talented artistes will perform different genres of music and arts.
Bamboo Pavilion: The Bamboo Pavilion and Bamboo Craft Centre, adjoining the main arena, will consist of stalls under the department of Industries and Commerce and Nagaland Bamboo Mission displaying local products such as handloom, craft, eateries, wooden products, potteries and fineries, baskets, homemade snacks, pickles, souvenirs etc.
Hortiscape: The Hortiscape, which is located right next to the second entry gate, will provide an array of organic horticultural products from Nagaland consisting of fruits, flowers and vegetables to buy, along with exhibition of products such as the famous ‘Naga King Chilli’.
Convenience and assistance: Adjoining the main arena will be the tourist registration centre, chapel, ATM booth, medical services, tourist police booth and information centre, media centre for convenience.
WW II museum: Below the convenience section, lies the World War II museum where visitors can go through the remnants of a deadly war that took place in Kohima.
Children’s park: In the southern part of the Heritage Village lies an amusement park for children.
Food park: Visitors can enjoy mouth-watering delicacies, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian; local beverages such as ‘Thuthse’, ‘Zutho’, ‘Khe’ and traditional items such as axone, anishi and bamboo shoot cooked with meat for lunch and dinner. Other activities happening around the village include Heritage Village walks, Hornbill first cut, trekking, Kohima Hornbill night carnival, stand-up comedy, concerts in various cafes, hotels and restaurants in Kohima town, World War II peace rally, International Naga Wrestling, Hornbill marathon and Mima stone pulling ceremony.
