Dimapur, Dec. 9 (EMN): The Hornbill Angling Festival which kicked off on Dec. 3 last at Tsuza Eryu, Doyang, Wokha culminated at Lavi Lake, Dimapur on Saturday last with a successful conduct of the pond/lake angling competition of the festival on Dec. 7 and 8 at Lavi.
In an update received here on Sunday, K. N. Mhonthung Lotha who won the pond/lake event received a cash prize of INR 50,000 along with certificate of citation from Kevisa Kense, Director of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Government of Nagaland who attended the prize distribution ceremony as a special guest. Kedibe Liegise and Roon Hazarika who stood in second and third position were awarded cash prizes of INR 30,000 and INR 20,000.
The pond/lake event carried a cash prize of INR 2 lakhs while the river event, held at Doyang on Dec. 3 gave away a total cash prize of INR 1.5 lakhs.
Kevisa Kense, who was accompanied by host of officials from the department lauded the Anglers Association of Nagaland for the all out effort to promote angling in the state of Nagaland and said Nagaland need such recreational and sporting activities that can promote tourism, conservation etc in the state. He was also of the view that sport fishery is much profitable and therefore it must be encouraged in the state.
Assuring to extend all possible support to extensively promote angling in the state, Kense informed that the department will explore places earmarked by the department in order districts and develop those areas.
More than 150 avid anglers from different parts of the country and state participated in the festival.
Hornbill Festival 2018 was organised by Anglers Association Nagaland (AAN) in association with the Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources and Department of Tourism.
