This particular issue became a hot debated issue during the recent past days. All the write ups, contributed by the writers were in conflict with each other. Taking into consideration the nature of our people, it is no surprising that there are sceptics and good people in our midst. We have a tendency to feel justified by doing what we think is right. When tempers flare, we tend to forget what our Christian values are. We may feel justified by our own actions but if our lives are not in harmony with what the Word is, the end result will be disastrous. The desire to do the will of the Father is what every Christian should yearn for. It is not for me to force my opinion on you but it is for us to live by the truth of the Word. It is no surprising that we are still worldly and materialistic. The sad thing about us is that we don’t honour the Sabbath day nor do we honour God with our lives. This is not to deny the fact that we live in a competitive world, but as believers we should be sensitive enough to revere God by honouring the sacred day.
In regard to the Sunday closure issue; there are some who are concerned about the loss of revenue in our state. The truth is the business enterprises in our land are dominated by the people from other nations and states. The revenues that are generated in our land goes out of our land. In other words, the money which are earned are transacted to their own native places by the concerned entrepreneurs. My intention here is not to make an issue out of it but rather to make us realize our own flaws and mistakes. Talking about lost of revenues, the more we allow the shops to open the more losses our nation will incur. It’s funny but true.
Every state and every nation has their own leaders to look after the affairs of the society. The way we rebel against rulers and authorities shows how foolish and spoilt we are. If we keep on complaining about everything, the rate of our progress will be slow. Many children of our generation are spoilt. Proud and lost in their sins. We are no different than them when we look at our own lives. When we don’t even keep our lives holy, how can we expect the people to keep the Sabbath day holy? The sad truth about us is that we are not willing to sacrifice even a day for our Lord. Considering the situation we are in, it’s unlikely that we will sacrifice our whole life for the Lord. The more we complain the more our sins will multiply. Instead of complaining about the Sunday closure, I believe it will be more beneficial if we shun the vices of greed, sin and rebellion from our lives. We tend to consider every bill and acts that were passed as injustice if we are not in favour of it. Every right thinking citizen should accept the things that are right in the sight of the Lord. Let us not deceive ourselves by claiming to be true believers. The day will come when the righteous will be separated from the wicked. The time will come when true believers will be separated from the false ones. Be aware of this and start examining your lives to see if there are any sins and flaws in you. The Church of Christ prays for you as we strive to do our best for Christ. Join us and be a blessing unto us as we are unto Him.
