Dimapur, Sep. 27 (EMN): With the objective to improve and develop apiculture in the state, the Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission, with funding support from Deutsche Gesellschaft Fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) conducted a two-day ‘capacity building and skill improvement’ training on beekeeping from Sep. 25 to 26 at NBHM’s Multi-Utility Centre 6th Mile, Dimapur which was attended by 33 agriculture technology management agency (ATMA) functionaries.
The trainees from the districts of Kohima, Dimapur, Peren, Mokokchung, Phek and Zunheboto were trained on the scientific management of honeybee colonies through technical sessions and practical demonstrations by the resource persons who were NBHM team members.
A press release issued by NBHM team member, Chubanungla Shilu stated that the objective of the training was to empower the ATMA functionaries on beekeeping techniques so that they can effectively transfer the knowledge to farmers and beekeepers at the block and village level in their respective districts.
Shilu also stated that through such training programmes, meaningful convergences and collaborations can be arrived at with the ATMAs of the state and the mission in the near future for the benefit of the state’s beekeeping community.
She also stated that the ‘advisor agriculture and state coordinator of GIZ, Dr. Cressida Jamir graced the inaugural session and highlighted on the activities and objectives of GIZ which focuses on on environmental and biodiversity conservation and livelihood interventions and other issues. Jamir encouraged the ATMA trainees to learn from the young and vibrant NBHM resource persons and further transfer their learning to the framers in their respective district.
On the concluding day, the Deputy Secretary Agriculture and Team Leader NBHM, T. Imtiwapang Aier extended his appreciation to all the ATMA Project Directors from the six districts for nominating their BTMs and ATMs for the training. He expressed hope that the trainees would share their learning with their colleagues and become future trainers for beekeeping in the districts along with Team NBHM. On successful completion of the training program certificates were awarded to the trainees by the team leader along with a set of bee box and tool kits to be used for demonstration purpose at the ATMA centre.
Similar 2-day training program is slated to be undertaken by NBHM with funding support from Deutsche Gesellschaft Fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) for 30 beekeepers of 6 districts on Sep. 27 and 28, the release further stated.
