Local Dimapur institution Holy Cross Higher Secondary School of Dimapur has been declared a tobacco-free zone on Tuesday, February 23. Extra Additional Commissioner of Niuland, Rongsenmenla, declared the symbolic status during the school’s golden jubilee sports event in the school’s premises.
The administrator, who is also an alumnus of the school, expressed joy at coming back to the school especially during the golden jubilee celebrations.
Emphasizing on the value of fair play during sports and games, Rongsenmenla said the country needs healthy individuals for nation building. She also said that games and sports are very important in school curriculum, as well as for all round development of students.
Rongsenmenla lauded the school for initiating “tobacco free school” and said awareness should be created in early stages and that school is the right place to create awareness about the ill effects of tobacco. She said academic learning is incomplete without leadership and learning spirit and sports.
The school’s sports meet kicked off with march past by the students of different houses, NCC cadets, Scouts and Guides and the school band.
