Kohima, August 24 (EMN): The Highway Monitoring Committee (HMC) Chetheba circle has appreciated the residents of Thenyizumi village and other organisations for rendering voluntary services in clearing and repairing of Chakhabama-Zunheboto via Chetheba/Chozuba road on August 22, which was badly damaged with the onset of monsoon and due to negligence of two-lane project carried out by the Maytas and Gayatri Construction under SARDP-NE.
In a press release, CMC convenor, Vepozoyi Theyo, said after the abrupt earth cutting and abandonment of the project by the company, villages connected by the stretch of the said road have been facing untold sufferings due to deplorable road caused by fury monsoon and unattended by the department concerned.
The convenor stated that with no alternative, the residents necessitated to render voluntary services and added that huge amounts have been spending every year from village development funds.
“The bitter apathy behind all these factors was the lackadaisical attitude of the government and the implementing agency in ignoring the plight of the commoners,” Theyo said.
Meanwhile, the committee has informed that though the road was cleared and opened, movements of heavy vehicles is restricted between Chakhabama -Chetheba since some of the worst affected areas are not pliable for heavily vehicles. Therefore, CMC has appealed to the truck owners and drivers, state transport buses to kindly take note of the advisory.
The CMC also reminded the State government that considerable amount of fund had been already spent by individual and non-governmental village level agencies and multiple efforts of labour have been rendered towards maintenance of the said road.
Further, the committee appealed the government to immediately assess and spot verify the affected areas and do the needful to ensure smooth flow of vehicle.
