Hüluyi D Vadeo wins 30th Secheku Wrestling Championship. Minister KG Kenye urges introducing Naga wrestling to other tribes for wider promotion.

KOHIMA — Hüluyi D Vadeo emerged as the champion of the 30th Wrestling Championship of the Secheku Wrestling Association (SWA), held at Razeba Adhoc Town in Phek district on Saturday.
The champion, Vadeo, from Sakraba village, received INR 1 lakh as prize money. Kuvenu Puro, from Porba village, bagged the second position and received a cash prize of INR 80,000.
Riivezo D Vadeo, from Sakraba, stood in the third position and pocketed a cash prize of INR 60,000. The fourth position was won by Dunve Thuluo from Porba village, who received INR 40,000.
In the Under-15 (U-15) category, Kutho Puro, from Porba village, lifted the champion title and was awarded INR 30,000. Veshezo Swuro of Porba village stood in the second position and fetched a cash prize of INR 20,000.

Lüdove Nakro, from Pholami village, bagged the third position and was awarded INR 15,000. The fourth position holder was Chure Pohena, from Zhavame village, who received INR 10,000.
Earlier, addressing the event as the special guest, Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs KG Kenye said that Naga wrestling has become a major sporting event in Nagaland.
Stating that Naga wrestling is mostly played by three tribes—Angami, Chakhesang and Zeliang—at present, he stressed the need to introduce this sport to other tribes of Nagaland and beyond. The minister said that policymakers would find a better position to support and promote this indigenous sport when it is played by all the Naga tribes.
Kenye also lauded the Naga wrestlers for bringing laurels to the state at both national and international levels and receiving global recognition over the years in belt wrestling.
Furthermore, Kenye commended the various wrestling associations and the concerted effort of the community in managing and keeping the ancestral sport alive.
Zhiewezü Thele, treasury officer, Dimapur, attended the prize distribution ceremony as the guest of honour.
