Dimapur, July 7 : Having long observed the usual silence and apathy of the government, the Hindi-teaching community in Nagaland has finally decided that only desperate means can exact desperate solutions from the government–they have given the authorities seven days to release the teachers’ salaries.
Iterating common suspicions of the public about the government frequently keeping aside released funds, the All Nagaland Aggrieved Hindi Teachers’ Association (ANAHTA) issued a note on Thursday alleging that money meant to be defrayed as salary for the Hindi teachers are available.
The central government has already released the funds, but the Nagaland government is ‘hoarding the money,’ the teachers stated.
“The ANAHTA despite giving several appeal our plea and sufferings appears to have gone to deaf ears, we the teacher are living a borrowed life with no corners left to even get credit. We are always put under mental duress, forced to agitate and made to struggle to survive each day,” the organization stated in lament.
“The excuse of not releasing our pay and arrears has always been that the central government has not released the fund. It is observed that even when the money is received we are not paid our salaries on monthly basis by hording our money for the reason best known to the authorities.”
Said development has resulted in late submission of utilization certificates to the central authorities which in turn resulted in ‘late arrival of sanction from the centre,’ the organization stated.
‘Therefore the aggrieved Hindi teachers are unable to sustain the grievance (sic0 any longer and are now once again pushed to the brink to issue the ultimatum to our government to immediately release our salaries from February 2016 to June 2016, within 7 days from today,’ the representation read.
The community also urged the ACAUT, the NSF, citizens and nongovernmental organizations for support.
