IMPHAL, FEBRUARY 17
The proposed indefinite bandh on National Highways in Manipur from February 17 midnight by Kuki Students’ Organization (KSO-General headquarters) and All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has been suspended.
The decision was arrived at in view of February 16 cabinet meeting’s approval for recruitment of 1582 primary and 419 graduate teachers and the cabinet decision by taking up suitable policy decision to recruit the contract basis teachers of the hill schools under the Directorate of Education(S), according to a joint press release.
On February 12, the two student bodies decided to resume their suspended stir to impose indefinite Bandh on the three National Highways passing through Manipur from February 17 midnight onwards. The three National Highways are 110 Imphal-Mao sector of NH 39, 215 km Imphal-Jiribam sector of NH 53 and 180 km Imphal-Jessami sector of NH 150.
General Secretary Seiboi Haokip of KSO general headquarters and Assistant general secretary James Inka of ANSAM in their joint statement on Wednesday have expressed gratitude to all the constituent units, sub-ordinate bodies, other pressure groups and well wishers who have extended unflinching support toward the joint efforts of the two organizations in its demand for adequate teachers in the hill schools and toward the cause of the long suffered contract teachers under education(S).
Earlier the two students’ bodies which have been demanding regularisation of the hill districts contract basis teachers’ of 2006 batch in the directorate of Education (S),have also decided to suspend the proposed indefinite highway Bandh starting from February 1 midnight for 10 days following the a joint meeting.
