Dimapur, August 27 (EMN): Arunachal Pradesh minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Trade and Commerce, Wangki Lanwang; Parliamentary Secretary of Trade and Commerce, Tesam Pongte; Director of Fisheries, Josil Taba; and three departmental officials from Tirap, Chauglang and Longding and accompanied by the Additional Director of Fisheries, Imtitongzuk Longkumer; Joint Director of Agriculture Jacob Yanthan; and other officials visited the project sites at Dzuleke, Khonoma, Jotsoma and Jakhama on August 24.
Terming his visit as a beautiful moment to be in Nagaland, Wangki Lanwang said that though a small village, the concern and respect for nature by the people of Dzeleke was a big message not for India and Nagaland but the world as a whole. Taking the example of the system in Arunachal Pradesh, he suggested on interlinking the tourism industry with that of fisheries to boost the economy of the village. He has suggested change in our concept and attitude towards nature and life.
A short interaction programme was held at Tourist Lodge, Dzeleke, wherein the minister appreciated the sincere efforts of the villagers in conserving the environment and nature and donated Rs 50,000 to the village. Applauding the sincere efforts, he said the village should be an eye opener for nature conservation.
Also speaking at the programme, the village council chairman, Avi thanked the visiting team for their assistance. He apprised that the villagers have set stringent rules towards conservation of the same. He further sought the assistance from the government for extension of fishery projects in the village.
The team’s scheduled visit to the unique alder cultivation at Khonoma village was cancelled due to the incessant rains. However, organic vegetables and products were displayed at Khonoma village. The entourage was also served with local cuisines and organic foods.
The team later visited the memorial tomb of GH Damant MACS, who was killed during the great battle of Khonoma and the Khonoma fort.
Additional Director of Fisheries, C Imtitongzuk has termed Dzuleke people as calm, hard working, sincere and honest. While on their visit to Jakhama, he said the paddy cum fisheries in Jakhama started when the then Director of Fisheries brought the system of cultivation after his visit to Japan.
