Imphal, Aug. 11 (EMN): As part of the commemoration of Patriotic Day and 75th Independence Day, “Heritage Walk” has been flagged off from Mangolnganbi College premises at Ningthoukhong, 35 km south of Imphal on Aug. 10.
Dr. Rangitabali Waikhom, Director of University and Higher Education, retired senior government officer Dr. R K Nimai Singh, Principals Dr. M Mangi Singh(C I College Bishnupur) and RK Birjit Singh, Principal (Mangolnganbi College Ningthoukhong) and Major Mayank Khosla of 31st Assam Rifles were present during the day’s flagging off ceremony.
The Heritage walk jointly organised by Mangolnganbi College and CI College supported by 31st Assam Rifles, NeScholar and Manipur Mountaineering and Tracking Association, will conclude at Laimaton Hill Range Point 5846.
More than 100 students from Mangolnganbi College and CI College, Bishnupur besides NCC Cadets participated in the walk and planted more than 1000 new saplings. This year marks the seventy-eight anniversaries of the twin battles of Imphal and Kohima when, in 1944 the Indian Army stopped the Japanese advance into India in its tracks and wrote a chapter of military history in letters of gold.
The event also saw active participation of local populace in tree plantation drive to spread awareness and encourage villagers about growing environmental concerns and ways to prevent it by tree plantation, said the Assam Rifles in a press release.
