IMPHAL, September 15: Manipur Governor, Dr. Najma Heptulla, appealed for a concerted effort to improve legal services to deliver justice to the common people while addressing the 65th foundation day function of All Manipur Bar Association (AMBA) at Cheirap Court Complex in Imphal.
Reminding that Justice delayed is justice denied, she also asked for a concerted effort to improve the large number of pending cases waiting for disposal. She informed the gathering that Manipur is not new to the working of a judicial system for dispensation of justice and added that the state already had a well organised justice delivery system during the King’s period.
Stating that the legal systems need to be strengthened in the state, she also expressed the importance for the timely delivery of justice saying the edifice of democracy rests on three pillars –Legislature, Judiciary and Executive. It is an established fact that a robust judicial system is a pre-requisite for democracy to flourish and the role of the Bar in such a system is paramount, she added.
Manipur’s Revenue, Law and Legislative Affairs, Forest and Environment Manipur, Irengbam Hemochandra Singh, also spoke on the occasion which was attended by the Advocate General Manipur, Th. Ibohal Singh, Chairman of Bar Council of Manipur, N Ibotombi Singh, President of High Court Bar Association, Manipur, Kh Binoykumar Singh.
Besides observing a two minutes silence, the foundation day was also marked by a floral tribute ceremony to the departed souls of the members of Bar and Bench. Altogether 21 members who have crossed the age of 70 years were also honoured during the day’s observation.
