NNN IMPHAL, Dec ember 15 Manipur deputy chief minister who also holds the home portfolio cancelled his visit to Senapati district after the NSCN-IM threatened him, according to BJP, Manipur unit chief. Manipur BJP chief Th Chaoba today demanded the Manipur Government to clarify on the matter. “A diktat issued from NSCN-IM’s Hebron Camp, off Dimapur warned deputy chief minister Gaikhangam and his team not to come to Senapati’s Somai village to attend a programme organised by Paomei Naga Baptist Association on December 13,” BJP Manipur Pradesh president Th Chaoba told media here. A cabinet minister and a couple of parliamentary secretaries were also supposed to accompany the Deputy Chief Minister. NSCN-IM warned of attack if the Deputy Chief Minister and his team dared to attend the event and hence the trip was cancelled, Chaoba alleged. He said such incident has shown lawlessness in Manipur and demanded the Government to clarify it. “Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh once returned from Senapati with a grin after he personally saw a big signboard depicting ‘Welcome to Nagaland,’ the BJP leader added.

UNC slams Manipur deputy chief minister Gaikhangam’s statement

The United Naga Council (UNC) has strongly condemned the statement of Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam who allegedly branded the UNC as ‘anti-people and anti-development.’ In its presidential council meeting held at Riha Tangkhul village in Ukhrul district today the UNC said it seriously viewed and condemned the 'irresponsible' statement of Gaikhangam for branding the UNC as ‘anti people and anti development’ on December 9, 2014 at Tamenlong headquarters. The meeting decided that the Deputy Chief Minister should be held sole responsible for any consequence arising out of his statement, the UNC said. According to UNC, it is the apex body of the Nagas in Manipur spearheading a democratic movement of the people. While reiterating its solid support to the on-going Indo-Naga peace talks, the meeting urged the government of India to exercise its ‘political will’ for the earliest logical conclusion. "The meeting then seriously views the political policy of the government of Manipur in its attempt to grasp the land and resources of the Naga and tribal people in the name of readjustment of police district boundary by an order on June 14, 2011 by the home department, government of Manipur," the UNC stated. The meeting decided that such ill motive being pursued by the government of Manipur will not be allowed and accepted in Naga areas. "Therefore, the attention of the government of India is drawn for its timely political intervention," it said.
