Heavy rains trigger multiple landslides in Mokokchung

(EM Images)[/caption] Our Correspondent Mokokchung, May 22 (EMN): Heavy downpour in the wee hours of Wednesday triggered landslides at many locations in Mokokchung district, blocking two major National Highways. Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung Rejesh Soundrarajan informed that two major and five minor landslides occurred along NH 702 D between Aokum village and Tsutapela Gate on May 22. He added that after receiving the report, BRO officials were contacted and resources from both end were roped in to clear the debris. He informed that it took more than seven hours to clear the debries; and traffic was brought back to normalcy in the late afternoon on the same day. Executive Engineer of PWD (NH) Mokokchung, Chubatoshi also informed that landslide occurred at NH 02 (location 185.6) in Unger area, some 36 kilometre away from Mokokchung town. He added that the road was opened to the traffic five hours after manpower and machines were pressed into action to clear the debris.
