Heavy rains to lash north-eastern states, monsoon to advance in parts of NE soon

Dimapur, June 9 (EMN): Heavy rains are expected to lash parts of Upper Assam and adjoining parts of Arunachal Pradesh due to the Western Disturbances moving across the higher latitudes. According to Skymet Weather, in the wake of further advancement of Monsoon, light to moderate rains with heavy spells is expected to occur over Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura in the coming days. Conditions are becoming favourable for the advancement of Southwest Monsoon in some parts of the north-eastern states. Due to this situation, moderate to heavy rains occurred over Sikkim, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Upper Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. Light to moderate rains were observed over rest parts of north-eastern states during the last 24 hours. In the next 48 hours, conditions are favourable for further advancement of Monsoon into remaining parts of the South Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep area and Kerala, some more parts of Tamil Nadu, southwest, southeast, east-central and northeast Bay of Bengal and some parts of the central Arabian Sea and west central Bay of Bengal. “The rains occurred in association with a cyclonic circulation present over parts of Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining parts of the Gangetic West Bengal and Bangladesh region. A trough extending from this system up to eastern parts of Bihar is also enhancing these weather activities. The direction incursion of moisture flow from the Bay of Bengal is continuing over the north-eastern states.”
