Imphal, July 1 (EMN): Torrential rains in the last two nights followed by day time heavy showers have caused flash flood at many places in Manipur’s valleys areas including the state capital on Saturday.
Besides the busy shopping areas of Imphal including Paona Bazar, Thangal Bazar, Dharmasala, BT road, Pologround areas etc, the main government offices including state secretariat and others important offices were also inundated due to the unpredicted and intense form of rainfall in Imphal area where 106.7mm of rainfall was recorded till 5.30 pm as per Indian Council of Agricultural Research Imphal centre at Lamphelpat reports.
Similarly several localities in the state capital Thangmeiband, Sagolband, Uripok, etc., are facing flash flood while residents of Seijang in Imphal East district vacated their houses after flood water entered their homes.
The intense rain in the districts of Imphal East (70.2mm), Imphal West (67.6mm) and Ukhrul (50.2mm) during the day (0-12noon) as per state environment department rainfall records, also creates havoc in last 24 hours flooding the Seijang sector of the Imphal-Ukhrul road and its habitation areas. Many paddy fields under Lamlai constituency in Imphal East district and Heibongpokpio area under Lamsang constituency in Imphal West district also faces flash flood, reports reaching here said.
The water level of the major rivers -Imphal, Nambul,Iril and Kongba which passes through the thickly populated greater Imphal areas are also increasing slowly, according to sources in Imphal.
On the other hand normal traffic along the busy Kangpokpi-Koubru Leikha sector of the National Highway 2 has been disturbed during the day due to landslide at three different locations.
However according to reports available here the landslide between Mongpijang and N Songlung village has been cleared and traffic has been reportedly resumed.
