DIMAPUR — Incessant rainfall in the early hours of Sunday triggered flood-like conditions across several low-lying areas in Dimapur, disrupting daily life and damaging properties.

Floodwaters from previous downpours had not fully receded, and the fresh overnight rain worsened the crisis. The worst-hit localities include Vilhume Colony, SM Colony, and Mao Colony (Lane-9) at Kuda B Village.

At Vilhume and SM colonies, overflowing drainage inundated roads, with water rising to thigh level in some stretches and seeping into homes.

Mao Colony also reported several affected households. One family said that it often takes more than a week for floodwaters to fully recede from their premises.

The road leading to Poumai Church at Mao Colony was completely submerged.

According to ASI Angukato K Yeptho of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Chümoukedima, the water levels of the Chathe and Dhansiri rivers have crossed the danger mark.

He cautioned that the Dubagaon-Khughovi Bridge is at risk of submersion if the Chathe River continues to swell.
