At least 160 houses were damaged by a heavy hailstorm that hit Manipur’s Churachandpur district today around 5 am.
No human casualties were reported in the hailstorm which wreaked havoc in many villages under Henglep subdivision, reports said here.
The hail damaged 160 houses at Santing, Maomual, Saichang and K Zoar villages in Henglep. Roofs of many houses in different parts of the state were also blown off by the massive hailstorm. Besides, the hail destroyed standing crops over a vast area of land.
The district administration sent officials to the devastated area to take stock of the situation. The officials were accompanied by Church leaders and representatives of various social organisations during the visit. They extended help to the affected villagers.
Life in Manipur and other states of the Northeast have been hit hard by strong wind and hailstorms in the past few days causing hardships.
