Wokha, June 8 (EMN): Heavy downpour on Wednesday afternoon triggered mudslides and water logging at several areas in Wokha district headquarters.

The heavy rainfall caused mudslides at the ongoing road construction on National Highway 2 while water logging and road block caused by debris were reported near the site, affecting the traffic in the area (Forest colony and Saron colony) near the District Veterinary and Animal Husbandry office.
Another mudslide was reported at the proposed Deputy Commissioner Office complex area in GA colony, wherein a house was damaged after its wall collapsed.
However, no casualties were reported.
It was learned that the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) responded to the incidents by deploying a backhoe to clear the debris that had blocked the road and brought the traffic movement to a standstill.
The concerned department is monitoring the situation and preparing to take action in case of further eventualities, it added.
Meanwhile, Wokha Daily Market, the business centre of the town, was also hit by flooding due to the heavy rainfall on Wednesday. It was informed that poor drainage and waterway system, and reckless dumping of waste caused water logging in the area.
The Daily Market Union, Wokha Tsumang- 'A', bore the brunt as business activities were affected.
The union, comprising mostly women, said that a proper drainage system is the only solution to end this annual disaster faced by the business community during monsoon.

It also urged the public not to litter in open areas and ensure proper dumping of non-biodegradable waste to avoid clogging of drains.
It went on to inform that the area (market) is a major footpath used by everyone, thus causes inconveniences to the pedestrians and business activities.
