Heavy downpour inundates Niu colony

Dimapur, Sep. 3 (EMN): About 120 houses in Niu colony under Ward No. 22 of Burma Camp, Dimapur, were inundated by flood water following heavy rain on September 1 night.

Flooding was aggravated by the swelling of Lengri River on Nagaland-Assam border and drainage along Niu and Veterinary colonies, an update from the colony chairman Tukuka H Awomi, general secretary Inato N Swu and GB Hozka K Awomi informed on Thursday.

It stated that the district administration responded promptly by deploying officials from the disaster management, who also conducted a survey of the situation. It added that the deputy commissioner of Dimapur, Rajesh Soundararajan, personally surveyed the affected areas.Ppersonnel from the 5th Assam Rifle led by Ajay Sharma also surveyed the affected areas and helped with rice, milk, tea leaves, black dal etc.

The update also stated that on hearing about the news, the advisor of Power department, Tovihoto Ayemi, donated potatoes and dal to the affected people. The colony has thanked Ayemi for his constant help to the residents.
