Free heart screening at District Hospital Dimapur detected congenital heart defects in 12 children; treatment to be provided under health schemes.

DIMAPUR — A free heart screening camp for children aged 0–18 years was conducted on Wednesday at the District Hospital, Dimapur, where 44 children availed themselves of the service. Out of these, 12 children were detected with congenital heart defects (CHDs).
The heart screening camp was jointly organised by the District Hospital, Dimapur (DHD), under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) programme, National Health Mission, by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Nagaland, and Sky Hospital and Research Centre Pvt. Ltd, Imphal, Manipur, and was sponsored by the Manipur Heart Foundation.
With free consultation and free ECHO (echocardiogram) screening services provided to all the beneficiaries, the 12 children detected with congenital heart defects—eight males and four females—were diagnosed with atrial septal defects (ASDs), ventricular septal defects (VSDs), and patent ductus arteriosus (PDA).

In charge of RBSK DHD, Dr. Kadila said that under the RBSK scheme, these cases will be treated by Sky Hospital and Research Centre Pvt. Ltd, Imphal, Manipur. The surgery, the clinician said, will be covered under the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS) and Ayushman card.
However, accommodation and transportation costs will be borne by the individuals availing the service. She also said that although the cost of further treatment may be free, there may be some nominal charges to be borne in the case of complicated cases.
