Dimapur, June 17 (EMN): A vaccine called the Rotavirus vaccine to prevent the spread of Rotavirus infections is to be introduced during a routine immunization programme scheduled for July 2019.
Nagaland will be the 12th in the country and 3rd in the Northeast region to introduce the vaccine, updates said.
Rotavirus is a common cause of diarrhoeal disease among infants and young children infecting nearly every child at least once by the age of five years.
A three-day training programme for district level trainers in this regard was held in Mokokchung, the medical establishment of the district informed in a press release that was issued to the media on Monday.
The event was conducted in the IDSP conference hall of the Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital during June 12-14, conducted by the district planning Mokokchung unit (DPMU).
A monitoring and supervising team from the directorate of Health and Family Welfare was presented at the training.
The resources person for the training was Dr Ayangla Saku; and Dr. Limanaro and Dr Imtimmongba, no surnames given.
Medical officers, Auxiliary Nursing and Midwifery personnel; and allied health workers and National Health Mission staff attended the training programme.
Dr Chubala Aier, chief medical officer of the district, delivered a speech at the training. She was stated to have urged the participant to 'learn sincerely with cooperation in order to obtain the best results.'
Another medical officer Dr. Kibangkumba, no surname given, highlighted the importance of the vaccine to the trainees, the updates added.
